Coffee, Coffee, Coffee!

Coffee comes from Africa, specifically from Ethiopia, from where it came through Jemen and Turkey to Europe where it became popular in the 17th century. Dutch traders were the first to start large scale import of coffee into Europe.

Coffee has two main types, Coffea Arabica which is older one and this coffee-beans are considered to be the best because of their high quality and delicious taste. Coffee Robusta contains about 40-50% more caffeine, than Arabica and is bitter and has little flavor, with a telltale "burnt rubber" or "wet cardboard" aroma and flavor. Other not that important species are Coffea Liberica and Coffea Esliaca from Liberia and Sudan.

Much processing is needed before coffee berries and its seed can be processed into the roasted coffee. Berries must be picked, defruited, dried, sorted, and sometines also aged. Roasting process has a great degree of influence on the taste of the final product. All coffee is roasted before being consumed, often we buy roasted coffee, but some people buy green coffee and roast it at home.

From coffee you can prepare many drinks, hot and also cold. Hot drinks are maybe a little bit more famous than cold ones. Black coffee, White coffee, Cappucino, Caffé Latte, Caffé Macchiato or Turkish coffee are probably best known hot drinks. From cold ones is Frappé best known and I must say it´s really tasty and refreshing.

Coffee is consumed not simply because of taste, but because of the effect it has on those who drink it. Coffee is a simulant, and it also has many benefits, it´s analgesic, antibiabetic, it stimulates human memory and it reduces heart diseases. On the other hand coffee puts people in risk of hihg blood pressure, coffee also causes staining of the teeth and can sometimes cause anxiety and irritability.
